Episode 207: Tracking and Adjusting Your Goals Throughout the Year

Welcome back to the Empower Her Business Accelerator podcast! I’m your host, Philippa Channer …

Before we dive in, I want to take a moment to wish you a very Happy Thanksgiving week. Whether you’re in the middle of prepping stuffing, enjoying some downtime, or just catching your breath from a busy season, I’m incredibly grateful that you’re here with me today. This time of year is a beautiful reminder of why we do what we do. As women entrepreneurs, we’re always pouring into others—our families, our teams, our communities—and this week, I hope you give yourself the gift of rest and reflection.

Now let’s talk business.

All month, I’ve been walking you through how to set intentional, strategic business goals for 2026. Today, I’m closing out the series by focusing on something many entrepreneurs skip entirely: how to track your progress and adjust your goals as the year unfolds. Because setting them is just the start—the real magic happens in the doing, the reviewing, and the re-aligning.

(00:00) Thanksgiving Reflections & Setting the Scene

I open this week’s episode with some heartfelt gratitude and a quick note on why we all need to take a breath and receive during seasons like this. Then, I introduce our final theme for the month: building systems to stay aligned with the goals we’ve set for the year ahead.

💡 Action Step: Pause for five minutes this week to acknowledge your own progress—mentally, emotionally, and professionally.

(01:00) Why Tracking Your Goals is Non-Negotiable

Setting goals is only the first step. What really determines your success is how you monitor, measure, and adjust throughout the year. In this episode, I’m breaking it down into three key parts:

  1. How to create a rhythm for regularly reviewing your goals
  2. What to look for when evaluating progress
  3. How to pivot with purpose—without guilt

📌 Action Step: Save this episode to your favorites. You’ll want to come back to it every quarter.

(02:00) Step 1: Creating a Review Rhythm

I always tell my clients that their goals only work when they stay top of mind. That’s why having a consistent review rhythm—monthly or quarterly—is so important. If you’re a solopreneur, monthly reviews might be best. If you have a team or a longer planning cycle, quarterly works great.

During each review, I like to ask myself:

  • What did I accomplish?
  • What didn’t get done, and why?
  • What needs to shift?

If you’ve been using the Empower Her Canvas or working with me through the Entrepreneur Incubator, this is the perfect time to revisit your strategy doc and measure your progress. Not sure how to do that? Go back and listen to episode 206—I walk you through breaking down your 2026 goals step by step.

🛠 Action Step: Choose your review frequency and add those dates to your calendar now—before January arrives.

(03:00) Step 2: Measuring What Actually Matters

Let’s talk metrics. It’s not about checking boxes or chasing vanity numbers. It’s about tracking the things that truly reflect business growth. Here’s what I look at:

  • Revenue growth (especially recurring vs one-time)
  • Lead generation and conversion rates
  • Email list growth and engagement
  • Social media stats, but only if they’re driving traffic or sales
  • Internal goals like hiring, system development, or new service launches

And if you need more help diving deep into metrics, episode 204 is a must-listen.

🎯 Action Step: Pick three key metrics that actually reflect your growth and start tracking them consistently.

(04:50) Step 3: Pivoting with Purpose

Not every goal is meant to last forever. And that’s okay.

Sometimes things shift. Maybe a better opportunity comes along, your audience isn’t responding, or a once-great idea no longer aligns with your business model. I walk you through how I decide whether to stay the course or change direction—and I always check the data and my intuition.

Here’s the thing: I don’t pivot just because something feels hard. I pivot when I see misalignment.

🧭 Action Step: Think about one of your current goals. Is it still aligned with your vision—or is it time to reroute?

(06:00) Celebrate Wins + Course Correct With Confidence

As entrepreneurs, we often skip the celebration part—but it’s essential. Every time I do a review, I take stock of:

  • What I’m proud of
  • What systems helped me succeed
  • What habits or boundaries helped me stay on track

And from that place of reflection, I ask: What can I tweak moving forward? What support do I need? Where can I grow next?

Your goals are a map, not a cage. You’re allowed to reroute, take detours, and shift course as you learn and grow. The key is to keep coming back to the map—your strategy, your numbers, your feedback, and your why.

🌱 Action Step: Write down three things you’re celebrating from this year—and one system you want to optimize in 2026.

(07:00) Final Encouragement + Looking Ahead

Thank you for tuning in during such a busy week. I’m so grateful to be on this journey with you. I hope this episode helped you feel more grounded and confident about not just setting goals—but staying committed to them with flexibility and intention.

And if you want a little help staying on track, I’d love for you to explore the Entrepreneur Incubator. It’s designed to give you the structure, coaching, and accountability to stay aligned—even when life or business gets chaotic.

Next month, I’ll be kicking off a brand-new series focused on cost structure and profit optimization—because growth needs solid financial foundations too.

Until then, enjoy your holiday. Rest. Reflect. And remember: You’re doing an amazing job.
